Begin with the particular fault.
The motor, mounting, waste connections and switching method all matter. Identify the unit before discussing replacement.
The air button feels different
Leave the unit switched off while reporting a button that feels loose, stuck or unusually soft. Describe the change in feel and whether the motor responded before it stopped. Do not bridge switches or open electrical housings. The air-operated control and the disposer model need to be identified together.
Another pattern to distinguish: the unit hums without turning
Stop the disposer if it hums without operating normally. Do not keep pressing the switch or put hands, utensils or tools into the opening. Give the exact make and model, together with the normal switching method. A stalled sound needs assessment and does not establish which internal component should be replaced.
Read the identity, not just the badge.
Quote the complete model and serial or service number from a safely visible label. Similar product names can hide different components. If the label is concealed, leave the appliance in place and tell us the model is unknown.
