Beckenham / independent appliance care

The extractor.
Separate light, fan and control.

This guide concerns an existing domestic electric cooker hood. Gas conversion, new gas installations and structural ventilation alterations are outside this enquiry.

Thoughtful preparation. A practical repair enquiry.

What still operates?

Tell us whether the light and fan work independently, whether one speed has failed or whether the whole hood is unresponsive. A shared control area does not mean these functions necessarily have the same fault.

A noise or vibration has changed

Describe when the sound begins and whether it varies with the selected speed. Stop use if a fitting appears loose or damaged. Do not reach into the fan, remove an electrical cover or run it with guards defeated.

Cleaning is model-specific

Follow only the manufacturer’s user-maintenance instructions with the equipment switched off safely. Do not spray liquid into controls or assume that every filter can be washed. A change after ordinary cleaning should be described factually.

Plan safe access

Mention the hood style, height and surrounding cabinetry. Do not climb onto the cooker or detach an overhead unit to find the label. Send the model from existing records if the label cannot be read safely.
